The Beerdmaster Review: Installment # 2

Welcome to the second installment of Beerdmaster! Beerdmaster is a Perelandra blog series exploring, appreciating, and celebrating beer, beards, and man culture. You'll find reviews of everything from natural care products and organic beer to herbal-healing wizardry - all available at Perelandra Natural Foods!

Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap
Used by the notorious Jack Passion, three-time world bearding champion, Grandpa's Pine Tar bar soap makes for a great beard wash. Get your beard smelling like an epic pine forest while keeping it moisturized naturally. It's important to keep your beard clean and hydrated because the hidden skin underneath doesn't usually get the care it needs. Pine Tar soap combined with a beard oil (consider jojoba oil) can help eliminate issues like beard dandruff. Pine Tar soap is also great for any kind of skin irritations including eczema, insect bites, and poison ivy. Just as a heads up: in the box the odor of pine tar might be a little unappealing but I feel like the true pine smell is released once it's lathered. Maybe it's an acquired taste, but I thoroughly enjoy the smell of the pine tar soap in the shower.

Urban Moonshine Digestive Bitters
These boutique herbal bitters are handcrafted in Vermont and are great for any digestive issue and general digestive health. Bitters are a good alternative to enzyme supplements. They stimulate the stomach to produce enzymes and get the digestive juices flowing. Unlike other bitters these do not contain an herbal laxative so they can be take them in confidence and without worry. Urban Moonshine even makes flavored bitters. Perelandra carries the Original, Citrus, and Maple flavors. The flavored ones are good for people who may not like taste of bitters (yes, they are quite bitter) and for people who want to mix them in cocktails or mixed drinks. Yes! You bitter believe it! Urban moonshine can be added to your own moonshine at home. They even have some recipes on their website (! Available in tinctures, bottles, and a spray.

Hope Foods Sriracha Hummus
I seriously can't get enough of this hummus. Hope foods has some of the most unique flavors of hummus on the market - and from what I hear they're just getting started. On top of that they use high quality vegan, gluten-free ingredients. The sriracha flavor is my favorite and is great with chips, on tacos, in wraps, or even salads. I won't hide the fact that I've even just spooned the hummus out of the jar. The sriracha flavor is pretty spicy so sensitive tongues beware. Bring Hope hummus to a party and you are guaranteed to win lots of party points. Hope Foods is usually sampling their hummus every Sunday at Perelandra. Try out the deliciousness for yourself!

Crabbie's Ginger Beer
I'm pretty sure this is what the spice of life from Dune tastes like. Truly an original, refreshing ginger beer that also gets you a little buzzed. Crabbie's just worked itself into my top favorite beverages. It is a little on the sweeter side, but it will be a perfect summer drink (if the summer ever does make it's way to New York). The ginger kick is right where it needs to be too - not overwhelming or too spicy, but enough to please any ginger fan. With a little bit of ice and a slice of lemon, or even a little bit of rum for an extra boost: boom! Enjoy ginger beer, the spice of life!
